noise / smell pollution
Author: cspinelive Posted: Sun Jun 1, 2008 6:45:53 am

I'm not sure what was worse, the big huge truck to my left that had its engine running for the first 45 minutes of the show or the guy to my right (upwind) who was smoking for most of the show.  I didn't want my 2 year old breathing either of those substances.  At a place where it is customary for everyone to be either outside their vehicle or inside with the windows rolled down, can't we make these two practices against the rules?

Maybe I'm just not that famailiar with drive in etiquette.  After I posted my question, I went to google and read the rules section on several other drive in websites.  Not one of them had a rule banning smoking or running your engine.  Does anyone else have a thought on the topic?

I would recommend moving your vehicle if you find that you are parked near a nuisance.  The right side of the parking lot is usually not crowded (no engine noise) and the wind usually blows from that side (no smoke going your way). The view isn't bad from that side either.

Smoking is not allowed at the 112 Drive-In.  If you have a problem with a guest, please inform the staff at the concession stand, or find one of the 2-3 Security officers walking through the drive-in.

If a running vehicle is causing you to not enjoy your drive-in experience, you can politely ask that person to turn off their engine, or find one of the members of the drive-in staff to help you.

I can see how someone running their engine for a long time would suck, I just give mine about a few minutes or so around the middle of the movie. Or we bring lawn chairs and a nice boombox. Nobody should leave their car running that long. As for the smoking.

I can think of alot worse things in the air we breathe. Is the guy taping a whole pack together and lighting it all up in one shot? I just can't imagine it's that bad, or you've got a supersensitive sniffer. I mean geez, it's outside.

Some people like a nice puff while enjoying their movie. Maybe a smoking section?

And those giant fans they have at football games, lol!

Regarding smokeing at the 112 and engine use.

There is no smokeing inside the concession area at the 112. However patrons can smoke in their car and outside their car. I have had no one tell me otherwise. I know some business's are otherwise. As for engines being on it gets very hot and we cannot ask patrons to turn their engines off. Unfortunatly sometimes people are not considerate about the fumes and leave their engines on longer than should. However we do have to rely on consideration. I agree with Raven you might want to move in another area if not satisfied with where you are its alot easier and wastes alot less of your time of missing your movie. Hope this clears up some of the confusion. We thank you for your visit at the 112 Drive In.

Sincerely

MGR
